The day is a state-wide initiative to encourage people to volunteer their time and get involved in the removal and prevention of graffiti.
Cr Bourke said there is all kinds of graffiti down at the skate park, from drawings to words and tags.
He said some of it he will leave in place, but the more offensive pieces will be cleaned off and then painted over.
“It’s a family venue,” he said. “Little kids don’t need to see that kind of thing.”
Cr Bourke said he intends to take a couple of volunteers over with him from the Community Op Shop, but he would appreciate all the help he can get if anyone has a little bit of time to spare.
He will be working over at the skate park from 9am to 11am tomorrow.
The skate park has been deemed a designated Graffiti Removal Day site.
Cr Bourke said all skate parks have problems when it comes to graffiti.
“Bathurst isn’t worse than anywhere else,” he said. “It just needs a bit of cleaning up and some of the inappropriate stuff removed.”
Cr Bourke said the clean up would be co-ordinated through the Community Op Shop, and Bathurst Regional Council would supply the chemicals, paint and equipment.
“This is something the community can do to help remove graffiti,” he said.
“I’d love to see heaps of people down here tomorrow, but I’ll be carrying it on throughout the year.”
A Graffiti Removal Day spokesperson said graffiti vandalism is a problem across NSW and costs local communities millions of dollars each year.
