Many visitors walked away with inspiration for their own homes.
Nine gardens were on display – from quite close to the CBD to as far out as Evans Plains.
There were quite a few star attractions in the mix.
The unique Grange Permaculture garden received a lot of attention over the weekend.
It wasn’t the size or the unusual varieties of plants that kept people coming, but rather the way the garden incorporated appearance and functionality.
Karen Granger – who owns Grange Permaculture with her husband Ian – put her finger on the garden’s popularity.
“I think people are enjoying that you can have chickens and veg with a normal garden,” she said.
But Ms Granger also stunned with her traditional roses, small water features, and the leafy vines that climbed the bricks of her home.
The significant attention Grange Permaculture acquired didn’t detract from the other beautiful gardens.
“Any that you go to you get little snippets and ideas for your own garden,” Ms Granger said.
Some of the gardens were little hidden treasures, like the Secret Garden in Cedar Drive, which featured plenty of hedges and wildlife sculptures.
Then there were some that truly surprised.
Traversdale Park in Kelso was the textbook definition of Dr Who’s TARDIS: “It’s bigger on the inside.”
Bathurst Gardeners Club member Gwen White summed it up perfectly.
“From the front I thought it would be pretty small, but it’s huge,” she said.
“It’s so beautiful you could hold a wedding there.”
Owned by Vicki Mason, Traversdale Park is a shady family garden with luscious green lawns and towering maple trees.
Organising committee member Anne Llewellyn called this year’s Spring Spectacular a “roaring success” after as many as 800 people walked through the gardens, and praised the quality of each one.
All proceeds from this year’s Spring Spectacular will go to local charities Bathurst Community Transport, the 2BS Lions Club Christmas Miracle Appeal, and the Mitchell Conservatorium.
