Although the Bathurst duo knew they had the awards wrapped up some time before the end of last season in September, they were able to finally see that made official at the Sofitel Hotel event.
The Turnbulls’ other major pick-ups on the night were the Carnival of Cups leading driver and trainer awards.
Amanda Turnbull drove 203 winners last season, excluding her winners in Victoria, to finish well clear of her nearest rival Lauren Panella on 147.
Steve Turnbull managed to follow in his daughter’s footsteps to record 211 winners in NSW, holding off Shane Tritton (172).
Tasmanian pacer Beautide was unanimously voted as the horse of the year thanks to his wins in the Inter Dominion, Miracle Mile, Newcastle Mile and Len Smith Mile.
The awards didn’t stop for The Lagoon’s leading stable as Mitch Turnbull was named the winner of the Country Junior Driver Encouragement Award.
Amanda Turnbull was in the winners’ circle just a night earlier at Goulburn when she steered Forever Texas ($15) to a win in the Hollingworth Crane Hire Pace (2240 metres).
The Josh Turnbull-trained gelding went into the race with a pair of fifth placings against his form, but bounced back to take his 11th career win in his fastest ever mile rate of 1:56.6.
Forever Texas got across from gate five to get to the pegs and take up the running, with The King Of Swing just behind. That duo then put over five lengths on the rest of the field in a quick lead-out.
Heres Rommel had the outside lead on the bell and started to challenge Turnbull in front, but couldn’t go on with it into the straight.
Modern Max ($10.10) tried to go four wide around the field and chase down the leader but couldn’t do so despite putting in some hard yards early in the race. Forever Texas won by 2.1m.
