At 1.12pm, wind gusts up to 80km/h were recorded in Bathurst, but the Bureau didn't issue a severe weather warning until 1.30pm. By then, the wind had died down across the region.
Bureau meteorologist Amy Cantor said that they while they got it right 80-90 per cent of the time, yesterday's wind storm came quicker than their computer modelling had predicted.
"In the end, even with the computer modelling, they sometimes just don't pick it up ... there's always that degree of variability when it comes to the weather," Ms Cantor said.
The gusty conditions may have only lasted for a few minutes but they left a mark with the Bathurst State Emergency Service (SES) receiving nine calls for help across the city.
Volunteers rushed to help home owners with damaged roofs and downed trees across the city and Sunny Corner.
The wild winds also brought down vegetation onto powerlines in a number of locations across Bathurst, with power supply to customers interrupted in West Bathurst, Robin Hill, South Bathurst, Perthville, Gormans Hill and Mount Panorama.
By late yesterday, Essential Energy said power had been restored to most customers affected by the power outage.
Many Western Advocate readers took to Facebook in the aftermath of the wind storm to post pictures and talk about the wild weather.
“A massive tree branch fell down just missing my car in Seymour Street. Bathurst council very quick to respond,” Belinda Mahony posted.
“The shirt display at Blowes went for a fly, and myself and another lady had to dash into the plaza and stand there rubbing our eyes from the dirt in the wind,” Kirsti Farmer posted.
Another reader, Bell Harris, cautioned motorists to be careful on the roads.
“Corrugated roofing was flying up my street in Llanarth, debris still on road, please be careful driving,” she posted.
