Sydney man Sevak Simonian, 21, was last seen around 8pm on Monday, October 20 but he was not reported missing by relatives until last Thursday.

His car was found on Friday night in a car park at Kanangara Boyd National Park.

Mr Simonian has previously gone on bushwalks alone in the same national park, and Chifley Local Area Command officers commenced a search of the area on Saturday.

Bathurst State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers are among those to join the search with personnel on site since Sunday.

Deputy controller Jessie Davidson said once the call came from the Oberon SES unit, local Bathurst volunteers were only to happy to join the search.

“Because of the terrain they were out there the whole day [on Sunday],” she said.

“We sent a crew of three people yesterday [Sunday] and a support crew of two today [Monday] for logistics.”

The Bathurst unit also has at least two more people heading out to continue the search. 

NSW Rural Fire Service Chifley/Lithgow team manager Tom Shirt was part of the search across the weekend in a co-ordination role.

He was joined by remote area firefighters to search for the missing man.

“They’ll be given a designated area to search ... it’s very arduous, it’s really remote, it’s steep hard work, it’s not for the faint-hearted,” he said.

NSW Police’s POLAIR helicopter, along with Ambulance Service of NSW personnel, have also been involved in the search.

At the time of print yesterday, Mr Simonian was still missing and police had established he was not carrying a Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB) with him.

Mr Simonian is described as being about 180cm tall, with a thin build, olive skin, short black curly hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on Mr Simonian’s whereabouts is urged to come forward.
