The annual initiative offers householders the opportunity to dispose of unwanted chemicals free of charge.
Bathurst Council water and waste manager Russell Deans said the event is normally well attended by residents.
Mr Deans said council has teamed up with NetWaste for the initiative, with householders able to dispose of a range of products, including paint cans, pesticides, pool chemicals and car batteries.
“People can bring in all the things they leave in the shed, under the kitchen sink and they’ll [Netwaste] separate all the items into different groups,” he said.
“It’s a perfect opportunity for a spring clean of the shed, to get rid of things that you have never been able to.”
Mr Deans said some of these items can be difficult for people to get rid of at other times of the year, but council has plans in place to improve that.
“We’ve been looking at improving the Waste Management Centre so people can leave these things on a more regular basis,” he said.
“We haven’t had an approved paint collection set up.”
The collection is for domestic quantities only of household hazardous chemicals, and is not available for businesses or commercial quantities.
Council has asked that all containers be labelled and, if you do not know what is in the container, label it ‘unknown chemical’.
Drop off your household chemicals to the Cooke Hockey Complex this Friday between 8am and 4pm.
