The Aussie Muscle Car Run made its way into Bathurst with 50 of the sleekest muscle cars setting their own lap times around the iconic track.
Held annually, the Run raises funds for the Leukaemia Foundation, and in just three years it has raised more than $1 million for the charity.
Mr Italiano travelled from Bunbury in Western Australia to take part in the Run and was determined to win the legendary drive at Saturday night’s fundraising auction.
“I paid $4500 for Allan to drive the car,” he said.
He originally had his XY GT Ford lined up for the run, the same model car Moffatt has raced in the past, but it “blew up” just days before the big event, so he took his reserve car, a 1982 Ford ESP Ghia.
“I can say I’ve been down Bathurst straight with a legend,” a very excited Mr Italiano said after the sprint laps.
Mr Moffat was unfazed by the excitement buzzing around him and said he was only too happy to help out for the good cause.
“It was pleasing to see so many people having fun,” he said.
Participants in this year’s nine-day Aussie Muscle Car Run travel from Adelaide, via Bathurst, Ballarat, and the Great Ocean Road before finishing up back in Adelaide.
Along the way they have the opportunity to test their machines at controlled motorsport events at renowned circuits including Mount Panorama, Winton Raceway, Mount Gambier Legends Hill Climb, Wilby Park and Warrnambool Go Kart track.
