Ryan, 15, is a rising star of the sport and is already going places.
He has just returned from representative duties with the Western Zone Under 17s and Under 19s after catching the selectors’ eyes.
With high hopes for a career in the game he loves, Ryan has his fingers crossed that Bathurst will get the nod from Cricket NSW as a regional location for the initial roll out of its indoor cricket academies.
This would make Bathurst a centre of excellence for the Cricket NSW-driven initiative, which aims to target the sport’s future stars.
A student at Bathurst High School, Ryan said he was excited by what this type of venture would do for the game here.
“For a start, we don’t have any indoor facilities here where we can train through the winter months,” he said.
“The idea of an indoor cricket academy is a great idea because it would solve that problem.
“Anything that gives players in the bush a chance to get recognised and go further in the game would be excellent for budding young local cricketers.
“If Bathurst does get selected I would love to be part of it once it gets up and running. It would be great to be able to follow in Trent’s footsteps one day. Just to get anywhere near what he achieved would be fantastic.
“My ambition is to eventually head to Sydney to play grade cricket with the same club as Trent, St George.”
Ryan’s mum, Fiona, said the closest indoor nets were at Dubbo, although the Kinross Wolaroi School has an indoor facility.
“Ryan lives for his cricket and he hasn’t stopped lately,” she said.
“An indoor academy would allow the players to train all year round.”
