Producer and co-director Emma Mason said there will only be two adults performing in the whole show, so young people will really have the chance to shine.
There will be a cast of 40, made up of six leads, four supporting cast and 10 cameos, as well as an ensemble.
Ms Mason said it will be the first time a Carillon production will have a cast made up almost entirely of kids.
High School Musical will play at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre in late June 2015. The production is based on the movie phenomenon.
“It will be an all-singing, all-dancing show,” Ms Mason said.
“The songs are very catchy.”
She and co-director Jacinta Bentley will be targeting local schools and the university in an effort to get as many young people auditioning as possible.
Choreographer Andrea Wills will also be taking part in the audition process. Musical director for the show will be Michelle Griffin.
The auditions will start this Thursday, November 27 at 7.30pm for the over 18s.
There will also be auditions this Saturday, November 29 from 9am to 4pm. There will be singing auditions from 10am to noon and dance auditions from 12.45pm to 4pm this Sunday, November 30.
Those interested in auditioning must sign up in advance by calling Ms Bentley on 0407 684 698 between 6pm and 7pm daily or emailing highschoolmusicalcts@gmail.com
Performers must be aged between 12 and 25, however, if they are at the older end of the spectrum they must be able to pass for a high school student.
“We particularly want to see boys audition. After all, it is set in a school,” Ms Mason said. “There are some excellent roles for boys in this show. We will definitely be looking for the next Zac Efron.”
Ms Mason said she recently saw the production in Sydney and was blown away by the music, energy, and audience enthusiasm.
Ms Bentley said it has been her goal to get into directing for some time, and she has long had her eye on High School Musical.
