It comes after Evans Arts Council’s decision to donate a percentage of the proceeds from its most recent shows to Daffodil Cottage.
Evans Arts Council has held four shows over the year, giving local artists a chance to display their talents across a variety of mediums – and get the chance to make a profit.
The money raised is used to help keep the council running, and remaining funds are used to help charities.
At the council’s last meeting it was decided this year’s donation would go to Daffodil Cottage, a charity supporting people living with cancer in Bathurst and surrounds.
The cottage’s specialist palliative care nurses work with general practitioners and community-based nursing staff, and provide in-patient consultations and post-discharge support. This is complemented by a bereavement service.
Evans Arts Council president Wendy-Lou Tisdell said Daffodil Cottage was a deserving choice, particularly because it helps at a local level.
“We already said we’d choose a cancer charity ... we wanted [the money] to go locally,” she said.
When Ms Tisdell contacted Daffodil Cottage, representatives had only been talking that day about purchasing over-bed tables.
Evans Arts Council was able to buy two tables and have them brought up from Lithgow.
Ms Tisdell said she and the other members were happy to help out in some small way.
“It goes back to our local community and it’s our local community that supports us and keeps the arts council going,” she said.
Evans Arts Council will hold its Art Show, Craft Show, Flower Show and Photography Show again next year and plans to donate a portion of the profits from each to Daffodil Cottage again.
