Bathurst MP Paul Toole may find himself in that situation after the next state election in March 2015.

While Premier Mike Baird is busy touting multi-million dollar upgrades to three of Sydney’s main sporting stadiums and any number of other infrastructure projects ahead of the polls, Mr Toole is determined not to miss out on his fair share of the pie.

The $20 billion injection into the government’s coffers is dependent on Mr Baird being returned to power next year and being able to lease 49 per cent of the state’s electricity network.

Mr Toole said yesterday he was quietly confident the scenario will be played out the way it is needed in order to secure the money.

“And I can tell you now, I’ve had my hand out for some time now letting everyone at parliament know I’ll be expecting some of the funds to be heading our way here in my electorate,” he said.

“This is going to be an initiative that not only benefits Sydney, but also goes a long way to rebuilding regional NSW.

“Of the $20 billion, regional areas will be getting $6 billion and $3.7 billion of that will be used for regional roads. The fixing country roads program will be up from $37 million to $500 million, while there will be another $200 million for bridges and identifying routes which can increase freight and productivity and boost the NSW economy.”

Mr Toole said his wish list was growing all the time.

“There’s no use holding back,” he said. “I would love to see the new bike park on the Vale Road finished off and become a truly magnificent regional venue for cycling. We could ensure we get enough money to get a quality second circuit for Mount Panorama.

“And while we are at it, I would love to see something special done to make Carrington Park into a venue worthy of hosting the biggest of fixtures.

“It would also be great to build a stadium along the lines of what has been done in Mudgee for soccer at Proctor Park. 

“There’s also talk of Bathurst having a dedicated cultural centre with Centennial Park mentioned as a likely contender for the location.”

Mr Toole said there is also a lot of hype about water security across the region.

“With that in mind, certainly the Government’s Fit for the Future Fund could be a funding source to raise the dam wall again at Chifley Dam, even put in a pipeline to bring the water into town from The lagoon.”
