Ms Carpenter won a seat on Bathurst Regional Council at a by-election in 2006 and retained her seat at the council elections in 2008.
In all, she served for six years on council, including 12 months as deputy mayor in 2011-12.
Ms Carpenter did not contest the 2012 council election, citing family commitments and the poor rate of remuneration for councillors as reasons for standing down. She is currently the chair of Bathurst’s most prominent environmental action group, the Bathurst Community Climate Action Network (BCCAN).
Greens’ Upper House MP Jeremy Buckingham will announce Ms Carpenter as the party’s candidate for Bathurst during a launch at 11am at Solar West on the Mitchell Highway.
Janelle Bicknell will be announced as the Greens’ candidate for Orange at a second launch this afternoon. The 2015 state election will be held on Saturday, March 28.
