With those words, Jeremy Gordon this week signed up for his third stint with the Bathurst Panthers Group 10 premier league side and the talented back is keen to make it one which counts.
Gordon was a member of the 2007 Bathurst Panthers outfit that won the Group 10 premiership and after playing another 12 months with the men in black, he went to try his hand in Sydney.
Gordon was back in 2011, Panthers having secured his signature as they looked to improve on a 2010 campaign in which they finished with the wooden spoon.
Improve the Panthers did, twice beating eventual premiers Orange CYMS on their way to placing fourth.
After that season Gordon moved to fellow Bathurst club St Pat’s for two years and spent this season plying his trade for the Cowra Magpies.
He got to play in a grand final for the Magpies, who went down to the Saints, but Gordon felt too much had changed at Cowra for him to line up in black and white again in 2015.
Fellow Bathurst product Tim Holman and KJ Wood signed with Forbes, while brothers Will and Phil Ingram moved on as well.
“Cowra wasn’t going to be the same; everyone was leaving. They are having some big changes and I thought there was no point in going back over there,” Gordon said.
“I was travelling with Timmy [Holman], and with him gone I would have had to do double the driving and it would have cost more. So I am happy to be home. It’s good timing and a good team.
“It just felt right. It felt time to come home and it’s a good, young team to play with. They came fifth this year and to play with guys like the Blake Lawsons, the Seager brothers, Toddy [Barrow] – he’s a good player and a good coach as well.”
The last time that Gordon played with Bathurst Panthers it was a very different looking line-up. Group 10 representative Kean Peard was in the second row, Blake Hewitt at lock and Steve Lane and Doug Hewitt played in the halves. All of them are now gone.
However, there is at least one familiar face who will play alongside Gordon in the Panthers’ back line next year.
“I don’t think I have played with anyone that is there now except for Bubba [William Kennedy], so that was another drawcard to come home – to play alongside Bubba again,” Gordon said.
Panthers are certainly pleased to have Gordon on board as he offers both size and strength in the back line. While his previous stints with the Bathurst club have seen him play in the centres, his efforts this season with Cowra showed he can play at fullback and five-eighth as well.
“It was a good year this year. It didn’t end the way we wanted it to, but it was still a pretty good season,” Gordon said.
“It was good to get in the six and one. It was a bit better than being in the centres and stuck out wide. I like to get me hands on the ball.
“I am not sure where I will play next year, maybe one at the moment, but that’s up to Todd.”
