It is believed the footage is from CCTV installed by private businesses.
Police said the victim, a 20-year-old woman, was confronted by a man as she walked to her car parked near the corner of Keppel and William streets about 11.30pm.
The man dragged the woman a short distance before sexually assaulting her.
Police were alerted and detectives from Chifley local area command attended.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment and released the following day.
Inspector Colin Cracknell said yesterday that while detectives have been investigating the incident, police at this stage would not be releasing any further information for operational reasons.
“A few people have contacted police and indicated what they have seen and police have been following up those lines of inquiry,” Inspector Cracknell said.
“We have also obtained CCTV footage from a number of locations and will be reviewing that in the next 24 hours.
“We will not be releasing any other information about the assault at this stage, only again urging anyone who may have seen something to contact police immediately either through Bathurst police station or Crime Stoppers.”
Inspector Cracknell said the man believed to have attacked the woman was of Aboriginal/ Torres Strait Islander appearance and aged in his 40s. He was wearing a navy hooded-jumper and board shorts.
He said detectives have received some calls since police made their initial appeal for assistance, but he again urged anyone who may have seen something amiss on Friday night to contact either Bathurst police on 6332 8699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
