The Western Advocate 2015 Bicentenary Calendar is being endorsed by Bathurst Regional Council and was officially launched by mayor Gary Rush on Tuesday.
It contains month by month images that typify what the Bathurst region is all about, but better still there is also an extensive listing of all the events the city has planned in its bicentennial year.
Featured on the front cover is a truly spectacular photograph taken by David Roma that encapsulates in the one frame everything that says Bathurst 200.
He was up before dawn and used a technique known as steel wool spinning to give the Bathurst Court House the appearance of being home to a celebration featuring a spectacular firework-type light show in the forecourt of the historic building.
David, who is a part-time professional photographer, said it was an original 15 second exposure with absolutely no digital enhancement.
"It turned out to be a pretty awesome shot," Mr Roma said. "It's been something I've been wanting to do for ages. A friend of mine was up from Sydney, so we set out before sunrise to see what we could come up with. In the end the shot was everything I had hoped it would be. Pretty cool. I am loving it.
"You get the steel wool burning on the end of a piece of string and swing it around and the embers spin off everywhere."
Mayor Gary Rush said yesterday the calendar is a must-have item for all residents as we enter the Bicentennial year.
"I love all the shots, but that front cover of the court house is very special and really does say Bathurst 200. There's the court house which is a special building in the city and the fireworks from the steel wool indicates a celebration is going on," he said.
"My calendar will be going straight up on the wall. There's won't be an excuse for missing any of the events we have planned because they are all listed at the back over a double-page spread.
"The launch of this calendar tell us the Bicentenary year is nearly here. I would say it's the first demonstrable sign the celebrations are just around the corner.
"It is also a fine example of the fine community partner the Western Advocate is for our community and I congratulate the newspaper for bringing out this publication along with all the sponsors who made it possible."
