A female driver and a passenger were airlifted from the crash site by NSW Air Ambulance after being treated at the scene by paramedics, while another five people were transported via road ambulance to hospital. 

Both drivers in the crash were trapped in their vehicles for well over an hour before being freed by police rescue. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. 

Emergency crews rushed to the crash 10 kilometres west of Bathurst just after 4.20pm after a campervan and Triton utility collided. 

Police Rescue, Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance, paramedics, the Rural Fire Service and State Emergency Service all responded to the incident. 

NSW Ambulance sent four units plus the Air Ambulance, which landed on site just minutes after the crash. 

Chifley Local Area Command Inspector Andrew Spliet said that crash investigators were en route from Sydney to determine the cause of the collision. 

He expected the highway would remain closed late into Tuesday night, with traffic diversions in place near the Dunkeld Bridge and the Bradwardine Road roundabout. 

Inspector Spliet said while the investigation into the incident was in its infancy, it appeared the campervan was travelling west and the Triton travelling towards Bathurst when the collision occurred. 

No other details about the crash were known , except it was understood there were children travelling in the campervan.

 “The two female drivers are being removed from the vehicles by police rescue,” Inspector Spliet said. “There were another five people in the motorhome suffering various injuries and they will be conveyed straight to Sydney via the NSW Ambulance helicopter.”

 Inspector Spliet said crash investigators from Sydney would have “carriage of the investigation” and urged any witnesses to the crash to get in contact with Bathurst Police on 6332 8699. Alternatively, witnesses can speak to police via Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
