Individual subject marks were released yesterday and indicated that the students’ ATARs, to be released from 9am today, will be just as impressive. 

Deputy head and director of teaching and learning Lynne Fleming was very impressed with how well Scots’ 26 students had done. 

“Their results are wonderful. The school is very pleased,” she said.

The Band 6 results came from a variety of subjects, including design and technology, agriculture and mathematics. 

“Twenty-three per cent of our children achieved a Band 6 result, which is an extraordinary thing,” Ms Fleming said. 

Several high achieving students visited the staff at Scots to share their success with them.

Jonty Boshier was one of the lucky students who was able to achieve a rare Band 6.

“I got a Band 6 in visual arts,” he said. “All my marks improved from trials, which is good.”

His classmate Sophie Ireland also excelled in her final year, being awarded one Band 6 and three Band 5 results across her subjects.

She has chosen to take a gap year and will be making the most of it by helping others.

“I’m going to Poland to teach English as a second language to the blind and visually impaired,” Ms Ireland said.

Once she finishes her work there, she would like to look into a career in graphic design. 

Another student, Peter Deacon, did well in his exams and has already received several early offers for tertiary study from universities in Canberra and Armidale.

He is still deciding whether he would like a career in architecture or chemical engineering. 

Ms Fleming is pleased with the students’ “strong credentials” and wishes them well in the future.

“Our children are aiming for courses of high esteem, and early indications are that their ATARs will allow them to pursue study at their chosen universities,” she said.
