Head of College Dr Peter Miller said this result is indicative of this year’s HSC students who he described as good, solid students.
Dr Miller said most are expected to receive an ATAR in the 80s. He said this would give them a lot of choice in what they do in the future.
Dr Miller said it was likely Mudgee student Alannah Miller would have the school’s top ATAR with three Band 6s. Local boy Gus McClelland received two Band 6s and was thrilled.
Dr Miller said there were a large number of Band 6s in business studies, while two Year 11 students also received Band 6s. Two or three students would have ATARS over 90 today, he said.
“We are expecting to have about 30 per cent of students in the top 20 per cent of the state,” he said. “That’s what this year’s group is like – good, solid students with ATARs in the 80s.”
Dr Miller said there are a whole lot of things that define a young person, not just their HSC mark, and this was an extraordinary group.
He added that about a third of Year 12 students at All Saints’ College were awarded early entry to university in a wide range of courses.
Gus McClelland said he was very happy with his results, especially English in which he received a high Band 5.
“I didn’t expect to do so well in English,” he said. “My expectations were to get an ATAR of 92 or above, and I think I have met that.
“I got 91 for chemistry and I’m particularly happy with that, but 93 was my top mark for general maths.”
Gus said he was hoping to study physiotherapy at Newcastle University, but he intends to defer for a year and travel to England to visit family.
“I’ve loved my experience at All Saints’,” he said.
