The win comes four days after the Wolves fell three points shy of beating Carson-Newman, losing 53-50, but the latest result has the Wolves still taking out four of their last five matches.
Hannah Lepaio also enjoyed her second basket in Newberry colours in the Queens win, her first coming two matches earlier with a three-pointer against Coker.
Haylee Lepaio claimed back-to-back double-doubles in the two matches, sinking 11 points in the win over Queens and 20 in the Wolves’ defeat to Carson-Newman.
She claimed 11 and 10 rebounds in those matches respectively.
Victory over Queens has improved Newberry’s season record to 9-4, and currently puts them fourth on the South Atlantic Conference table.
The Wolves were rarely troubled against Queens once they made it through a tricky first quarter of the match.
The lead had blown out to 14 at one stage before the Wolves came off at half-time up 28-18.
Haylee Lepaio got herself more active on the score board in the second half where she claimed eight of her 11 points.
The younger Lepaio’s basket came with seven and a half minutes remaining in the match and pushed the lead out to a game-high 26.
Emily Perry was the star of the show for the Wolves with her 16 points coming from nine out of nine successful field goals, including four three-pointers.
The elder Lepaio was at the top of her game in the previous game against Carson-Newman as she took 10 points in each half.
Newberry held a one-point lead at the break that blew out to 11 points at one point in the second half.
A big scoring run broke the hearts of the Wolves who watched their chance at a fourth straight win get snatched away in the final minutes.
Lepaio’s efforts in the loss were rewarded with another nomination for the SAC Player of the Week award, her second in the space of three weeks.
Lepaio has already taken out the prize once this season back in the very first week of the competition in November.
A big hurdle is being thrown in the Wolves direction over the next two games, taking on top two sides Anderson and Wingate in a pair of away fixtures.
The first of the two matches against Anderson takes place on Sunday morning Australian time.
