Momentum is building for land in McPhillamy Park at the top of the iconic circuit to be used for the venture.
Bathurst Regional Council has previously ruled out the former Alec Lamberton soccer field at Kelso as the likely venue, based mainly on noise concerns, with The Scots School and residents living on White Rock Road in close proximity to that location.
Few people could now argue that Mount Panorama isn’t the perfect location for the city’s first go-kart track.
It ticks all the boxes.
First and foremost, it’s situated in a famous motorsport precinct, which makes it a natural choice for this type of development.
There is also the fact that being at the top of the circuit means the all-important noise concerns become less of a problem.
Another plus is that a go-kart track fits in with council’s bigger picture vision for that area of the city’s south.
Apart from the main circuit, it’s also in the same vicinity as the new harness racing complex off College Road and the bike park which is being developed just down the road.
Common-sense would dictate that Mount Panorama wins any argument hands down.
While the parties involved in this development are remaining relatively tight-lipped, the potential for a go-kart circuit at McPhillamy Park is huge.
The fact it would be located at Mount Panorama would give the Bathurst Kart Club a huge advantage when it comes to promoting events should it one day get the nod to host state and national championships.
This, in turn, would lead to further economic benefits for Bathurst.
