THE Bathurst Bullet was a popular way to travel during the school holidays, with more than 2300 customers using the service to travel to Sydney.

The Bullet was introduced in October 2012 as a daily return service from Bathurst to Sydney after the community lobbied for its introduction.

It runs seven days a week between Bathurst and Sydney and return, stopping at Lithgow, Mount Victoria, Katoomba, Springwood, Penrith and Parramatta.

A NSW Trainlink spokesperson said the Bullet had become a popular service for Bathurstians heading to Sydney.

In 2014, around 21,600 people caught the Bullet from Bathurst Railway Station, down on the 24,000 people who travelled on the service in 2013.

On average, 50 to 65 people use the Bullet from Bathurst each day for their trip to Sydney, while more customers join the service at Lithgow, Mount Victoria and Katoomba on its way east.

July was the most popular month among patrons in 2014, with 2040 people using the service.

In January 2014, 1910 people rode the Bullet, while in February 1600 hopped aboard.

March saw 1790 passengers, with another 1970 in April.

During May there were 1760 travellers, June had 1860, August 1560, and 1960 in September.

In October, 1780 people caught the Bullet, 1670 in November and 1760 in December.

A spokesperson said the two car Endeavour train has 177 seats, with an additional two spots for wheelchair users.

An adult return ticket to Sydney on the Bathurst Bullet costs $17.60, while pensioners pay $2.50, and children and students $8.80.

Customers using Opal cards can gain significant daily discounts over the cost of a paper ticket to or from Bathurst.
