Time is running out, however, with final nominations due by Friday, February 27.
More than 140 people have been nominated from all walks of life.
The Bathurst Arts Council is delighted with the response to date and urged those who were still thinking about who to create to get their nominations in to avoid disappointment.
“We are expecting a hugely diverse display on the courthouse lawn in May,” Bathurst Arts Council president Jenny Barnes said.
“People who have been nominated span Bathurst’s 200-year history.
“We’ve had nominations for explorers, first settlers, Aboriginal people, early government officials, pioneers, sportspeople and, from more recent times, people who have started or been instrumental in local community groups, people from various areas of the arts, politicians, bushrangers, just good citizens and the clergy.
“This is shaping up as a great community activity, with schools, pre-schools, aged care facilities and groups all working together on the figures,” Ms Barnes said.
Local resident Mary Smith has started work on her homage to well- known educator, historian, gardener and Old Government Cottage volunteer, Spencer Harvey and is using the work to promote the upcoming events at the cottage at the end of March.
“If anyone would like to create a figure but doesn’t have anyone in mind then we can help by providing a profile of a person and a workshop in which to create it. Please contact Jan Page from the Arts Council on 6337 5354,” Ms Barnes said.
Submit your nomination by February 27 to ensure that your preferred nominee has not already been claimed. Nomination forms can be obtained from the Bathurst Arts Council website, bathurstartscouncil.org.au or Bathurst Regional Council’s bicentenary website bathurst200.com.au
