A team of four managers from the Bathurst restaurant joined other volunteers across the city doing their bit as part of the Clean Up Australia Day events being held across the nation.
This year marks the 25th Clean Up Australia Day, over which time volunteers across the nation have donated more than 27.2 million hours towards caring for the environment by removing an estimated 288,500 tonnes of rubbish from almost 146,000 sites across the country.
Cassandra McLeish and her colleagues Rory Ferguson and Chloe Potts spent 90 minutes cleaning up the area along Peace Park and the Macquarie River.
They filled four bags with rubbish.
“We got a lot of beer cans and beer bottles,” Cassandra said. “We do it as a group of four every year.”
Cassandra said they got a lot of positive feedback.
“People were saying what a great job we were doing,” she said, adding next year she is hoping more community members lend a hand.
“If we picked up four bags of rubbish, imagine what we could achieve if more people got involved.
“Next year we want to make this bigger, and get a much better turn-out.”
She said it was disappointing that there was so much rubbish in Peace Park and along the river.
Amy Carter, also a manager from McDonald’s, said the restaurant enjoys being part of the community event.
“I’m really proud of my staff for involving themselves in it. Next year we are really going to try to get the community involved as well,” she said.
