Four people have died in four separate crashes across the state today, sparking a call from police for drivers to take it easy behind the wheel.
The four crashes were at Shooters Hill, near Oberon; the Royal National Park, south of Sydney; the Hume Highway at Gundagai; and at Kellyville in Sydney’s north-west.
In the Shooters Hill crash, police were called to the scene about 32km south west of Oberon about 8.30am on Sunday following reports that a car had crashed into a tree.
On arrival, police found a Holden Rodeo ute alight on the side of the road.
The single occupant of the vehicle died at the scene. No further details of the identity of the person are available.
Officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the incident and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander Assistant Commissioner John Hartley yesterday reminded all motorists to drive to the conditions and follow the road rules.
“Today we lost four lives on our roads, - all of them tragedies that could have been avoided,” Assistant Commissioner Hartley said.
“Driving distracted, tired, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and failing to wear seat belts or correct helmets can easily lead to a fatal crash in a split second.
“For the sake of your loved ones, and for all other road users, follow the road rules and be alert to the conditions around you.
