Bathurst Regional Council is hosting the conference, organised by Local Government NSW.
Delegates arrived in town last night for a welcome dinner at the National Motor Racing Museum and will take part in a series of workshops at the Mount Panorama Pit Complex today and tomorrow.
Mayor Gary Rush said council had bid for the rights to host the annual conference this year as a way of promoting the region's tourism attractions and also the bicentenary.
He said most of the delegates worked in tourism roles at local councils across the state, while a number of mayors would also attend.
"Any opportunity we have to promote the visitor economy in Bathurst is worth taking and this really does present us with a tremendous opportunity to showcase what this region has to offer," Cr Rush said.
"Council has also organised some of the keynote speakers including Professor Tara Brabazon from CSU, so we're also tapping into our local talent."
According to the conference program, the theme over the next two days will be Building Community Capital: Social, Economic and Cult-ural.
Television presenter Scott McGregor will be MC for the conference and Destination NSW chief executive officer Sandra Chipchase will present the keynote address from 9.30am today.
Tonight's dinner will be at The Carrington on Keppel Street and Bathurst Regional Art Gallery director Richard Perram will present his own address, Creating Focus A Case Study of Keppel Street, Bathurst, tomorrow afternoon.
The conference will wrap up at lunchtime tomorrow.
