Mr Milne first encountered the problem when he rented a home in Havenhand Way in January last year.
“I heard neighbours complaining about the rubbish and weeds in the walkway and I contacted the Department of Housing, asking for the weeds to be tidied up and the rubbish and broken glass to be removed,” he said.
“They didn’t want to know about the problem.
“I contacted them several times before the rubbish was removed.”
Mr Milne said the clean up took place within a week, but says the rubbish has built up again as there is no regular maintenance of the walkway.
“The Department of Housing needs to be more consistent – if it was council land they would maintain it – but the Department of Housing don’t give a hoot,” he said.
A Family and Community Services (FACS) spokesperson said inspections were conducted regularly on properties owned by FACS to ensure maintenance was performed and rubbish was removed as required.
“FACS has been made aware of these maintenance concerns and has organised for a clean up of the area as soon as possible,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said illegally dumped rubbish or other maintenance concerns could be reported to the Department by calling the Housing Contact Centre on 1300 HOUSING (1300 468 746) 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
