Bathurst’s winemakers are keen to join in the city’s bicentenary celebrations, and one of their first events will be the St John’s Revival on Saturday, March 14.
Three wineries – Grass Parrot Vineyard, Vale Creek Wines and Renzaglia Wines – will team up with the Wholefood Kitchen in Bathurst to delight the senses.
Bathurst Regional Vignerons Association president Tony Hatch said this is a “rare opportunity to dine inside the architecturally significant”, but now decommissioned, church.
“It is a fabulous building. It was designed by Edward Gell and built in 1867,” he said.
“We’re just bringing it back to life, not for purposes of worship, but just to have it as a community building.
“It will allow people to sit in the church and enjoy super food and wines.”
The St John’s Revival feast is one of the Autumn Colours events running from March to May, with many focused on Bathurst’s history as the city celebrates its bicentenary.
Mr Hatch said there are many other food and wine events in the program line-up.
“The bicentenary of Bathurst doesn’t happen every year and we want to be involved with that and do our part in promoting Bathurst as the great place that it is,” he said. “I think we as vignerons are in the tourism industry and want to promote Bathurst any way we can.”
Tickets to the dinner and wine event are $140 each and can be booked by emailing mark@renzagliawines.com.au.
A percentage of each ticket sold to the event will be donated to the restoration of the chapel windows.
