THERE are plenty of sibling stars across all realms of sport, but it is tough to top the sister act of Tianna and Keira Copeland given their swimming exploits in recent weeks.
The Bathurst Public School pair have been in red-hot form since they hit the water at their annual school carnival.
At the end of it all, they were crowned senior and junior girls champion respectively, something for any family to be proud of.
However, they went a step further than that soon after.
Racing against the best swimmers from across the entire Bathurst region, they both replicated the feat at the Bathurst District Primary Schools carnival that followed.
“I had six individual events, I won five of them and came second in the 50 metre breaststroke,” Tianna explained regarding her remarkable performance at the district meet.
“We’ve got the Western carnival coming up next over in Dubbo [today] so I’d love to be able to do it again there.”
Her younger sister was equally as effective, dominating during her school’s carnival and then starring against her district rivals.
Keira took out the 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke, the individual medley and was second in the 50m freestyle at district.
On top of all that, the pair walked away with a host of school records during their Bathurst Public dominance.
Tianna broke four records and Keira two.
The pair train four times a week on average, which goes some of the way to explaining just how good they have become. But considering they’ve only been swimming seriously for two or three years, it makes their performances remarkable.
In the winter things quieten down a little with both girls playing netball, but they still make good use of the Bathurst Aquatic Centre’s indoor facilities.
Most importantly, they have the right attitude to their sport.
“I just like doing it because it is fun, and it keeps you fit and healthy,” Keira said.
“I love doing the races, especially at the school carnival where you have everyone in your house cheering you the whole way."
