Between 60 and 80 students use the service each Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning from 8:30am until school begins.
When Breakfast Club kicked off 10 years ago, it only operated one day a week, but thankfully it has grown to provide breakfast on the majority of school days.
In 2009, the Breakfast Club was able to become independent through the support of local businesses and community volunteers, but as its independence has grown so has the number of students who rely on the morning service.
According to Breakfast Club co-ordinator Natalie Beattie, the service has become invaluable to many of the students, particularly those who travel from far away to attend Kelso Public School.
“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and initially the need was identified to help students have the best start to their day and to help their learning,” she said.
“However, Breakfast Club has become an important morning routine for many students who look forward to the good company, healthy food and warm milk.”
Ms Beattie added that Breakfast Club relies heavily on the generous volunteers who give up their time to assist with food preparation and serving breakfast to the children.
More people are needed, though, to ensure the continued success and longevity of Breakfast Club.
Any members of the community who can spare an hour or so in the mornings to help with these light duties are asked to contact Ms Beattie at the school on 6331 1577.
