The rooms are part of a $9 million upgrade of school facilties to be officially opened today by Bathurst MP Paul Toole.
The state-funded upgrade included a gym, dance studio, performing arts theatre and other learning spaces.
Principal Geoff Hastings said Bathurst High had identified the need for additional study space for their Year 12 students during their Higher School Certificate (HSC) year.
Students now have access to the seminar rooms during recess, lunch and study periods.
Mr Hastings said priority was given to students who required an ATAR for tertiary study, but no student would be without a dedicated space to study.
“These additional spaces have allowed us to support our HSC students who have specific study needs,” Mr Hastings said.
“We have used one of the seminar spaces to support students who have identified that they are pursuing entry to a course with a very high ATAR requirement.
“The second study room has been used for other HSC students who require an ATAR and who wish to use the room.
“All our HSC students also have a dedicated study space available to them in our library.”
Mr Hastings added that the new study space for senior students, who are free to use these areas unsupervised, is just another addition to Bathurst High’s commitment to support those undertaking the HSC.
“The school is using the opportunities afforded by the new spaces to support our students through the HSC, support that is additional to that already supplied to all students which includes, but is not limited to, free maths tuition, after hours contact with teachers, a HSC mentoring scheme, voluntary after hours coaching and a full-time careers adviser focusing on early entry, career planning and post-school goal setting and employment pathways,” he said.
