The Way to Work session will bring together industry experts to discuss the top tips for kick-starting a career.
With youth unemployment in some parts of NSW as high as 20 per cent, session co-ordinator and Adecco branch manager Mark Galbraith said the session will be vital for all tertiary students.
“We’re looking at ways to address youth unemployment and transitioning people from study into work,” he said.
“People need to start thinking ‘where to next’ after they finish studying.
“Competition is fiercer than ever and experience is highly regarded.”
Guest speakers in the one-hour session will include human resource managers from ANZ, Devro, Westfund and Simplot.
Also on hand will be representatives and careers advisers from Charles Sturt University and TAFE Western.
“Panellists will detail their grad programs and students can ask relevant questions of the expert panel about career options,” Mr Galbraith said.
“We’ll discuss ways to stand out to a prospective employer.”
Mr Galbraith said there will also be giveaways and handouts, including interview tips and resume guides and templates for students.
Social media – including how a job applicant’s Facebook account will appear to prospective employers – will also be a topic at Thursday's session.
A free lunch will be provided.
Way to Work will be held at noon at CSU in the large lecture theatre, building 1411, room 347.
