Mayor of Bathurst Cr Gary Rush will officially open three projects; Old Government Cottage Garden, The Pillars of Bathurst and A Delightful Spot An early Government Settlement Heritage Trail, in a joint ceremony starting at 11am at the Old Government Cottage in Stanley Street.
The Bathurst District Historical Society's Old Government Cottage Bicentennial Heritage Garden reflects plants from the late Georgian period through to the mid Victorian period.
The Bathurst Garden Club have planned and designed the cottage's garden to give visitors of today an idea of what a typical garden would have been seen in Bathurst 100 years ago and more.
The Pillars of Bathurst cultural garden commemorates the lives of past Bathurstians who have added something special to the story of the region, offering inspiration to living and future locals.
A Delightful Spot is a trail through 16 sites around Macquarie and Bicentennial Park which tells the story of Bathurst's beginnings.
The Government Settle-ment Precinct is of unique importance and significance. On an area not much bigger than a city block, we can trace the history of the opening chapters of the colonial settlement of inland Australia.
There is no other place in Australia that offers this comparison.
Cr Rush said the opening of the three projects is an exciting moment in Bathurst's bicentenary year.
"These three projects provide residents and visitors with an insight into the early Government settlement of Bathurst, which sowed the seeds for the city we know today," he said.
After the launch, everyone is invited to the Pioneer Picnic in Macquarie Park, across from Old Government Cottage Garden where The Wholefood Kitchen will be preparing picnic hampers.
Picnic goers can enjoy damper, roast beef, cheddar, pickled zucchini, a range of chutneys, condiments and teacake.
Hampers are $20 for one serve or $35 for two and are available in vegetarian and gluten free options.
Pre order your hamper by midday today and pick it up when you arrive on Sunday.
