The girl told police the men told her to get into their van.
Police hope someone may have witnessed the incident.
Police said the girl, aged 10, was walking along Hawkins Street when an older model blue van drove close to her.
Police have been told there were two men in the van and that the passenger yelled at the girl to “get inside” the van.
The girl ran away to a friend’s home and the car was last seen turning left onto Suttor Street.
Chifley Local Area Command police were notified of the incident and started an investigation.
Detectives would now like to speak with two men who may be able to assist with inquiries.
Police said yesterday the first man had only been described as “having grey hair” while the second man was described as being of Caucasian appearance, 35 years or older, with grey hair, an earring in his left ear and a skull tattoo on his left arm.
The girl told police the van had white scratches on its sliding door and black and yellow number plates, with the first letter possibly being ‘Z’.
Following the appeal for information, police said Thursday’s incident has again highlighted the need for parents to discuss the ‘Safe People, Safe Places’ messages with their children, including:
Make sure your parents or another adult you know knows where you are at all times.
Always walk straight home or to the place you are walking to. Walk near busier roads and streets, or use paths where there are lots of other people.
Know where safe places are – a shop, service station, police station, library or school. If you are ever frightened, go to one of these places and ask them to call the police.
Anyone with information on Thursday’s incident should contact Bathurst detectives on 6332 8699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
