Bathurst Library will be conducting a free chess tournament on Saturday, April 11 as part of its autumn school holiday activities.
It is open to kids under the age of 18 who have prior experience playing chess and want to play a few games.
“You do have to be able to play chess – it’s not a learning experience,” Bathurst library manager John Cumberford said.
The tournament will be supported by Bathurst Chess Club, whose members will be available on the day to assist.
Participants in the tournament will go up against players in the same age group in a series of knockout matches.
As members of the Bathurst Chess Club will be supervising the games, younger participants feeling skilled, or brave, enough will be able to go up against these experienced players.
“It is a chance to challenge some of the chess club members if you’re good enough,” Mr Cumberford said.
The tournament will take place between 10am and 3pm at the library.
Bookings are essential and can be made by phoning 6333 6281.
Other activities at Bathurst Library during the school holidays, starting from Wednesday, April 8, include making clay creatures, string Easter eggs and light bulb air balloons.
Some of the activities are free of cost or only incur a small fee.
