All nine sides from 2014 will go around again with Binalong joining our competition, coming from the Canberra competition where they were one of the top sides. So in first grade we will have 10 teams.
Binalong will field a side in the Youth League, making it five sides, and also line up in League Tag, taking the League Tag to eight sides this season.
In today’s derby at Tom Clyburn Oval, from 3pm, the Tigers host Cargo Blue Heelers. Both sides have recruited well.
Cargo, the defending premiers, have lost a number of players, but have brought some young players on board. They still have the nucleus of last year’s forward pack which will lead from the front.
These local derbies are always physical encounters which usually go right down to the wire. Not knowing how both sides will line up, I think the Tigers will start favourites, having the home ground advantage, but they know it will not be easy against the Blue Heelers.
Today, newcomers Binalong will be at home to Trundle Boomers. The Binalong side comes into Woodbridge Cup with a lot of success over many years in the Canberra area.
The Boomers will be strong again this season, so this will be an interesting clash, but Binalong at home should win over the Boomers, who face the long trip for the game.
Tomorrow, we have three games. Eugowra Golden Eagles host Burrangong Bears with Eugowra at home to win.
Grenfell Goannas in another local derby, host Gooloogong Cowboys. I am hearing both sides have recruited well which makes for another top clash.
The final game of the first round has the big western derby when Peak Hill Roosters host old rivals Condobolin Rams. These games are always high scoring and entertaining games. Both sides like to throw the ball around which makes for an entertaining clash. The Roosters at home will be hard to beat.
In Youth League, Canowindra plays Peak Hill and Binalong takes on Grenfell, while Eugowra has the bye.
In League Tag today, Canowindra goes up against Cargo and Binalong takes on Trundle. Tomorrow Eugowra plays new side Burrangong, and Grenfell and Eugowra have byes.
