The premier league and first division sides have scored wins in the two opening rounds while the under 18s and Oz League have won one out of two.

First division

The Wolves scored an impressive 20-12 win over Mudgee at Mudgee with Guy Merrick crossing for two tries.

The other tries went to youngsters Eli Felton and Harry Bender who are experiencing their first year in senior grade after coming up from the under 18s.

Bender was so impressive that premier league coach Graeme Osborne rewarded him with a stint in the top grade.

Hard running Harry Knight also had a blinder, making some big runs.

Captain coach Kyle Willmott has the side playing a good expansive style of rugby league with their speed and power worrying the Dragons from the kick-off.

The Wolves led by four at the break and continued to hold the upper hand in the second half to post a good win.

The win was all the more impressive considering that Kyle Willmott and another of last week’s stars Luke Morris were out with injury with the side fielding virtually the bare 13.

They are sitting in equal first with Bathurst Panthers, Oberon and Orange CYMS who they play this round.

Under 18

The young Wolves bounced back after their loss to Cowra in the first round to post a 28-16 victory.

Mudgee were coming off a first up win and were confident of a win on their home ground.

Coach Ross Harrington had his side firing as they came out strong and it wasn’t long before the inform Nathan McAndrew crossed for the opening try.

The Mudgee defence could not handle the long striding Nic Millar who made some great 50 and 60 metre runs bagging two tries.

The Wolves held a commanding 18-nil lead by the break.

The Lithgow side continued to dominate Mudgee and by the first time that the home side had put points on the board with two quick tries, the Wolves were still holding a 28-6 lead.

Mudgee finished strong, but the Wolves held on to take the match 28-16.

Nic Miller, Nathan McAndrew and halves Toby Kenniff and Cameron Denley were the standouts in a top effort by all the young Wolves.

Oz League

After a good showing in their first match when they outscored Cowra, the Wolves were out enthused by Mudgee Dragons, going down 24-10.

They had their chances, but when they did make a break, the final pass went to ground.

Mudgee went into the game with the plan to take Lithgow’s Chrissy West out of the game by kicking away from her and then employ a good kick chase to keep the Wolves’ in their own territory.

Lithgow tried hard, but they were just off their game.

Tahlia Nugent, Gemma King and Mallory Goodman played well.
