THE Bathurst Clay Target Club has a proud history in the city and on Sunday members added another chapter as they staged their Bathurst200 Shoot.

The overall winner was Grady Evans, who performed consistently across all three of the day’s shooting events: a 25-target point score, 40-target mixed target and a 20-pair double rise.

The competition was used to reflect on the history of the club in Bathurst as well as giving a nod to city’s bicentenary.

“We did this as part of the Bathurst200 event. The gun club has a very long history in Bathurst. A lot of those details we don’t exactly know, but I’m going to set myself the goal of trying to find more out,” club publicity officer Paul Rosconi said.

“We have a photograph inside from 1908 and that was the gun club’s jubilee shoot. The jubilee shoot would mean 25 years old, so it goes back a long while before that when the club was founded at the old waterworks.”

Results wise there were few surprises with the overall winner according to Rosconi.

“If Grady Evans turns up he usually wins. He’s very consistent and does a lot of shooting. He’s dedicated himself to trap shooting and he’s done very well at it,” he said.

“We had a good turnout with people coming from Blayney, Orange, Lithgow. It was very well attended considering the weather. The shooting was really good and the scoring was also good.”

Evans just edged out AA grade shooter Peter Haley in the first round with his 73 out of 75 getting him home by a target.

He then scored a perfect 50 in the opening half of the second round to sit a point ahead of three rivals.

After being bettered in the back half of the middle round, Evans wrapped things up in style with his 36 in the challenging double rise event.

Despite a shaky end to the day in the double rise, Rosconi himself held on to take the A grade title.
