Help celebrate Bathurst’s bicentenary at Bicentennial Park:
■ 10am: Bathurst RSL band performs.
■ 10.30am: Official ceremony begins with re-enactment.
■ 11am: Wiradyuri dancers and smoking ceremony and official speeches.
■ Noon: Flag will be raised on Bathurst’s new flag staff.
■ 10am-4pm: The Bathurst bicentenary colonial fair will also be held near the Pillars of Bathurst (corner of Hereford and Stanley streets). Catch a glimpse of how people lived in the early days of the Bathurst settlement.
Parking:
Parking will be available at the Aquatic Centre, rear of McDonald’s and Hereford Street (on the street and on the grassed areas with access only from Gilmore Street end).
Road closures:
Those driving into the CBD for work on Thursday from Kelso or surrounding areas who usually travel along Hereford Street will need to take an alternate route to work.
The following roads closed from 4.30am – 6pm on Thursday 7 May:
- Hereford Street
- Stanley Street between Rankin and William Streets
- Williams Street between Stanley and Charlotte Streets
- Rankin Street between Morrisset St and Macquarie River
■ 10am-4pm: The Bathurst bicentenary colonial fair will be held near the Pillars of Bathurst (corner of Hereford and Stanley streets). Catch a glimpse of how people lived in the early days of the Bathurst settlement.
■ 5pm - 9pm: The two week Illuminate Bathurst kicks off with the Bicentenary Night Illumination Street Festival. Illuminate Bathurst will be displayed on the Court House, Carillon, TAFE Building, Ribbon Gang Lane and Pedrottas Lane from Saturday 9 May every evening for two weeks. All lighting is on rotation so you will be able to walk and enjoy the Illumination at your own pace - and it's on every night between dusk and 9pm, until Sunday, May 17.
On Saturday, bring a picnic blanket, chair or table and set up a spot in Kings Parade and enjoy the spectacular evening. Some banquet tables will be available along Russell Street, although no reservation will be taken.
Food will be available from vendors and surrounding restaurants and cafes: Festival Food $5 - $22; local wine and beer by the glass $6 (souvenir polycarbonate glass for $3 with first glass).
Kings Parade on Saturday:
- 5pm: Peoplescape - People in Time open for viewing.
- 5pm Reenactment.
- 6pm: Cirkus Surreal performance.
- 6.20pm: Lantern Procession.
- 6.30pm: Illumination Bathurst Show Begins.
- From 7pm: roaming fire show and live music.
Parking
Parking throughout the CBD will be available to the public including the RSL carpark, Stockland and Bathurst City Centre.
Road closures
Russell St from William St to George St will be closed and Churches Lane will be closed from 6am- 11pm on May 9 only.
