Bathurst Regional Council recently approved a 52-lot subdivision adjoining Hobson Close with access from Hamilton Street at Eglinton.
Now it’s time to give the roads their official names and council has come up with four recommendations following appropriate suggestions from the developer.
Councillors have agreed to adopt the names of Cusick Street, Darling Street, Maxwell Drive and Poole Street.
According to a report to council, Cusick is the surname of a long-standing Eglinton family.
This name was originally nominated by the Eglinton Hall park committee in 2003.
The report also notes that General Sir Ralph Darling (Governor of NSW between 1825 and 1831) visited the area and stayed at Government House, Bathurst, in 1829.
“The developer selected this name from council’s list of early settlement period names,” the report states.
Maxwell Drive was chosen in recognition of John Maxwell who was superintendent of stock in Bathurst in the 1820s and 1830s.
The developer selected this name from council’s list of early settlement period names as well, as was the case with Poole Street which was selected because in 1831 Major Thomas Poole replaced Major Donald Macpherson as commander of the Bathurst Military District.
According to the report, the proposed names comply with council’s guidelines for the Naming of Roads.
Council has now asked its director of environmental, planning and building services to undertake procedures pursuant to the requirements of the Roads Act 1993 to have the names gazetted, should no objections be received.
