In their first game back in Premier League Hockey for three years, the Lions proved they would be a force to be reckoned with this year and would not be easy beats as many pundits had expected.
Waters was impressed with the performance of the team in last week's draw, and hoped they could match that effort this week and build momentum for the early part of the season.
"We were two goals down with a couple of minutes left so for the boys to keep their heads and come back was fantastic," Waters said.
"It is early days at the moment but we are looking to build on that performance with another strong showing.
"We really enjoyed playing last weekend and being back in the competition.
"We had some great feedback from other players and supporters so we are looking forward to the season ahead."
Waters expects a tough game against the Wanderers, who will be looking to make it back-to-back wins after a 5-4 victory against Parkes last weekend.
"We expect a tough game against the Wanderers and they are always a competitive side," Waters said.
"We will be utilising the same systems and structures as last week with a bit of an emphasis on discipline and making sure we keep our heads up when things are tough.
"But for this stage of the season the partnerships are going well and I'm sure they'll keep improving."
Samuel Mould will again be a key figure for the Lions with the representative star scoring twice last week against Souths.
The Lions come up against the Wanderers at 2.35pm on Saturday at the Orange Hockey Complex.
