Darrin Masters was left as the sole parent of Annabelle, 12, Frances, 8, and Phillip, 6, after their mother, Kristi Masters, died unexpectedly in her sleep on January 10.
In recent months they have fell on financial hardship, but thanks to the generous actions of the team at Sports Karate Australia in Bathurst this troubling situation may ease a little.
The organisation has devised the Masters’ Family Fundraiser, a day of wholesome family-orientated fun with all proceeds going to Darrin and the children.
Organiser Jason Gay said the team at Sports Karate Australia were very familiar with the Masters family as Annabelle attended the centre regularly.
Because Mr Gay has three children, he was keen to help.
“I just think ‘imagine if something happened to me and the rug was pulled out from under my family?’,” Mr Gay said.
The fundraiser will be held at the old St Patrick’s Sports Club in Kelso from 3-8pm and has a full program of activities to enjoy.
“It is getting bigger and bigger every day,” Mr Gay said.
The list includes a chocolate toss, temporary tattoos, jumping castle, face painting and demonstrations of martial arts, dancing and fire breathing.
Several local performers will also provide entertainment on the day, and firefighters will show how they deal with a kitchen fire in a demonstration after dark.
The main event for the evening, though, will be an auction where items will be sold to the highest bidder.
In addition to this event, a donation page has been established online via gofundme.com where people can give money for the Masters’.
“I was hoping to get close to $10,000 for them; that’s my goal,” Mr Gay said.
He hopes to see as many people as possible turn out for the fundraiser this Sunday, to support a young family in need.
