ORANGE CYMS has scored 26 second-half points to storm home and beat the Cowra Magpies by 26-18 at Sid Kallas Oval.
Remaining undefeated as a result, CYMS were made to come from behind as the Magpies flew out of the blocks to score in the fourth minute, before going on to post 14 first half points and keep the green and golds scoreless during the first 40 minutes.
But, as the fightback firmed and CYMS edged ahead to lead 22-18, Cowra's final opportunity to regain the lead went begging after Aiden Craig muscled over the line only for a loose carry to result in a knock on.
Momentum constantly shifted throughout the contest, but CYMS closed out the game with a try to Ben McAlpine on the full-time siren.
"I wouldn't say it was a good win, we were below our best," CYMS' captain-coach Mick Sullivan said.
"They’re good at home and started hard and were very hard to run down, we had a good little patch in the second half and luckily got them in the end.
"Five in a row and mostly away is a good start but we got to put better efforts together than that.”
Cowra coach Steve Sutton didn't hide his disappointment after Cowra's fourth defeat in a row and said an earlier high shot on halfback Jack Nobes - an incident placed on report - was a send off offence.
"Really, really disappointed with the result," Sutton said.
"You must have to kill someone to get sent off, we lost our halfback in the back end of the game and they stayed with 13 on the field. If that wasn't a send off offence I have never seen one, that was disapointing.
"But full credit to CYMS they made the most of their opportunities, Tim Mortimer was outstanding, they were just too good for us on the day.”
It was Cowra's Ricky Whitton that opened the scoring for the home side when he scooted from dummy half giving the Magpies an early 4-point lead.
Moments later Cowra were attacking the right side again and a lovely one-hand pass from Toby Nobes gave Mitch Browne an easy passage to the line, Toi Sepuloni missed the extras and Cowra were up 8-0.
Cowra were strong in defence while CYMS were failing to complete sets and Cowra took advantage on halftime when Reeion Murray intercepted possession and strolled over to give Cowra a 14-point lead at the break.
Momentum completely changed from the restart, though, and CYMS scored 26 points to Cowra's four in the final 40 minutes.
Tim Mortimer led the charge for the Orange club breaking Cowra's line on several occassions.
He was first to cross for the green and golds before winger Semisi Katoa, Sam Hill and Ben McAlpine all crossed, the latter grabbing a pair.
Aiden Craig scored the Magpies lone second half try.
ORANGE CYMS 26 (Ben McAlpine 2, Tim Mortimer, Sam Hill, Semisi Katoa tries; McAlpine 3 goals) def COWRA MAGPIES 18 (Ricky Whitton, Mitch Browne, Rheeion Murray, Aiden Craig tries; Sepuloni goal).
