The walkers, who come from Penrith, make the 150 kilometre journey each year to raise money for a variety of charities.
They raise around a whopping $100,000 each year.
The Great Walk has been raising money for charity for the past eight years.
It is the brainchild of Jonathan Green and Mark Mulock.
Publican of the Knicker-bocker Hotel Scott Macallister went to school in Penrith with Jonathan and they have been friends ever since.
Mr Macallister has given a lot of support to the walkers over the years.
He has just hosted the participants for two nights at the hotel. As a result he gets to nominate a local charity to receive the equivalent amount of money.
This year $2500 will be going to Daffodil Cottage for its expansion project.
In the past, Mr Macallister has donated the proceeds of hosting the group to Riding for the Disabled, headspace and Daffodil Cottage.
The group arrived in town ready for their mission on Monday night, and yesterday morning set off from the pub for their stage-one walk out to Tarana. They then caught the bus back to the Knickerbocker to recharge their batteries with some good old-fashioned Bathurst hospitality.
Today they will walk the next leg to Lithgow where they will bunker down before taking on the Lithgow to Mount Victoria leg tomorrow.
For Friday the plan is to push on from Mount Victoria to Wentworth Falls, and on Saturday they plan to finish the job and make it through to Lapstone, arriving in time for a bit of a celebration.
The money raised during the walk goes into a pot with money raised from a big sportsman’s lunch in Sydney and donations from other fundraisers.
“It’s a great thing to be able to be involved in,” Mr Macallister said.
“Daffodil Cottage is such a great local cause.”
