IT has become the competition that Bathurst just can't get a break in as the Panthers finished runner-up in Sunday's AMP Inter Town Squash A grade competition in Orange.
With defending champions Bankstown not returning this year the opportunity was there for the Panthers to take the win, but Crookwell ended up taking the spoils.
Bathurst did however find success elsewhere with the women's C grade team of Caroline Robertson, Chanel McCarthy-Partridge and Megan Renshaw finishing champions.
The women's result came down to the narrowest margins with the Panthers' side beating Rylstone in the final on count back. The fixture finished at two matches a piece, at eight competitions points all, and six games all.
Total points won was needed to decide the champions and Bathurst prevailed 140-137.
"They all really enjoyed it. For the three of them it was probably their first tournament together, but they all gelled really well together," tournament organiser and A grade representative Dave Fuller said of the women's side.
"We ended up finishing runners-up again. It was a pretty good result, but we ended up losing our first match against Grenfell and that put us on the back foot early."
Fuller's A grade team had an opportunity to take the win in the final leg of the round robin competition playing Crookwell.
Panthers team number one Jason Black had a tough time against an imposing Josh Southwell-Knobbs who won 3-0 over his Bathurst opponent.
Dave Fuller prevailed 2-1 over Mick Bailey in their match up with a 17-15 result in the deciding game.
Crookwell's number three Mick Hookham took on both Tony Sheedy and Nathan Fuller of Panthers.
While Fuller was able to take a 3-0 result that score was turned around on Sheedy and was enough to get Crookwell the victory.
In other results, Orange had a home-court success in the women's A grade with their 3-1 final victory over Milperra.
Wagga Wagga beat Parkes in men's B grade, while in the women's, Condobolin prevented Crookwell from winning another title. Men's C grade saw Dubbo defeat Denman
While Panthers and Rylstone juniors clubs once again faced off in D grade, giving young players valuable match experience.
"You see small town teams like Denman and Rylstone turning up with five teams each which is great to see," Fuller said.
"The D grade was once again between the Bathurst and Rylstone juniors ... we had awards given out there to the top three players from Bathurst and the top three from Rylstone.
"It's great for them to turn up and play because they're the future and without them we'd have nothing in the years ahead."
