Organisers are asking if anyone who can help out for an hour or so to come along.
Doorknockers should meet at the Westpac Bank in William Street at 9am. They will then be given a collection kit, a map and someone to go with them.
Funds raised will directly support the Salvation Army’s programs and social services, which assist over one million people nationally.
Bathurst appeal chair councillor Monica Morse urged the local community to support the annual appeal.
“Imagine not being able to afford even one substantial meal every day; or having to go without heating in winter,” she said.
“Unfortunately, this is the reality for many Australians, including members of our very own community in Bathurst.
“Just a small amount of your time could help improve the lives of many in the Bathurst community by volunteering as either a driver or door knocker for the Red Shield Doorknock appeal.”
Cr Morse said last year the Salvos had plenty of volunteer drivers in Bathurst, but not enough door knockers; so this year they are asking for more people to volunteer as doorknockers.
Volunteers can register at Westpac Bank on William Street or by phone or in person in advance, or by visiting The Salvation Army at 37 Keppel Street, Bathurst or call Lieutenant Aaron Reid on 6331 4956 or 0409 156 436.
A fundraising launch will also be held tomorrow at 1pm in the Bathurst City Community Club where there will be a fun auction and lucky parcels and a light lunch.
