ELIZA Kwan made sure she gave herself the best possible chance of staying in front in the Evocities Mountain Bike Series while she embarks on a seven-week overseas sojourn after her third straight win yesterday.
Kwan dominated the third round of the competition at the Bathurst Bike Park to add the women's open race to her wins in the first round in Orange and the following race in Western Sydney.
She is set to miss the next two events in the series, but with riders able to drop their worst result at the conclusion of the races, she may have done enough to stay in front even when those two rounds are taken into consideration.
She proved too strong for Brooke Rowlands, who was also runner-up in the Orange round.
Kwan was in a league of her own for most of yesterday's race, and was the only female solo rider to make it to the eighth lap before the four-hour cut-off.
She was around 12 minutes in front of Rowlands at the time.
Wendy Stevenson produced a strong finish to move into third, 8.12 behind Rowlands and a little over a minute clear of Sara Mills in fourth.
"That was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be," an exhausted Kwan said afterwards.
"I'm really happy with how I rode, the course was very good fun, but it was just very difficult.
"It took me a while to figure out how to deal with the corners and where they were all going. My legs are absolutely fried, I wish I had more horsepower."
Kwan was dominant from the outset, leading by 29 seconds at the end of the first lap and by nearly two minutes after two.
