MOLONG was desperate for some rhythm, and the reigning GrainCorp Cup southern division champions found just that - or at the very least some - against CSU Orange on Saturday afternoon.
The now third-placed Magpies swooped on the Aggies, tearing the Orange side apart in a 38-nil demolition job at Ron Gordon Oval.
It was Molong’s third win from five starts this season, but Magpies skipper and No.8 Chris Hayes said he still found the performance to be somewhat bittersweet.
“You can’t really complain about a 38-nil win, but there’s still plenty to improve on,” the Molong skipper said after the strong victory.
“The main positive for us is that we kept them to zero, our one-on-one defence was good, we needed to improve on that and we did. Our set piece was good too.”
Molong dominated the clash from start to finish, leading 14-nil at half-time before Stuart Hobbs ran in a second half double to seal the win.
Hayes said he victory was crucial for his side leading into this weekend’s home clash against Condobolin Rams - especially considering the Magpies were coming over consecutive byes - but conceded his side still has some glaring issues it needs to rectify.
“It sort of all comes back to us struggling for numbers recently,” Hayes said.
“We haven’t been getting numbers to training, and while we’ll have heaps this weekend, we don’t have enough for away games.
“We’ve been struggling (for continuity as a result) and it forces us to try different combinations. We’re still trying to get that stuff right.
“In saying that, it was a good win to have before Condobolin.”
