THERE are always sub plots to any Group 10 derby.
Former NRL players Mick Sullivan and Wise Kativerata will clash in the halves at Wade Park, while former NSW Country and Group Nine premiership-winner Mitch Davis will be in charge of muscling up against Simon Osborne, arguably the toughest forward in Group 10 today.
There’s Matt Rose v Jared Brodrick - no love lost there - while Tim Mortimer’s obvious link with the two blues as the club’s former captain-coach makes today’s derby worth watching alone.
But let’s share the love with the flanks.
Gone are the days where wingers were the ones who simply hung around footy players, both CYMS gun Robbie Mortimer and Hawks sensation Jedd Kennedy are two flyers helping their respective sides to victory on a seemingly regular basis.
Speed to burn versus experience no other winger in the competition boasts, it’s enough to suggest these two will play a massive role in just who comes out on top in today’s derby.
“It’s going to be a lot tougher this week coming up against the top side in first grade,” Kennedy said.
“We’re definitely going to have to play our best on the day to compete.”
While Mortimer, who missed last week’s win over St Pat’s with a shoulder complaint, says the undefeated green and golds are wary of the rejuvenated two blues.
“Especially with Hawks coming off a really good win in their last game,” Mortimer said.
“We need to be on our guard and stick to the game plan that’s been working for us.”
