Organisers are expecting 100 competitors, aged seven to 25, from Victoria, Queensland, the ACT and throughout NSW.
Herefords Australia Youth president Kate Morris from The Lagoon said a team of students and heifers from Bathurst High would take part in the competition for the first time.
“I told my old teacher from Scots, Mr Matus, who now works at Bathurst High, that it was a good opportunity for the school to take part as it was 15 years since the school had had anything to do with cattle,” Kate said. “The school has put together a team of three students and two heifers which are on loan from Tony Keech at The Lagoon.
“It will be a great learning experience for the students and a great opportunity to meet new people and to make friends for life.”
Kate has been involved with the show for 13 years.
“I wouldn’t miss it ... I’ve been to shows all over the country, including Goulburn, Parkes, Wodonga, Melbourne, Cootamundra and Tamworth,” she said.
Kate’s niece, seven-year-old Emily Morris from Bathurst, will be making her debut in the competition this year.
Competitors will start arriving in Bathurst tomorrow and the competition begins at 9am on Friday.
“The junior judging competition will run throughout the day,” Kate said.
“There will also be cooking demonstrations run by Better Homes and Gardens’ chef Fast Ed at 11am and 2pm, featuring Hereford beef, and clipping demonstrations.
“The cattle will be judged on Saturday and the official dinner will be held at the Harness Club on Saturday night. At 9am on Sunday the paraders competition will kick off and it will be followed by the presentations.”
The show is being organised with the help of the Central Tablelands Herefords Association and the public is welcome to attend.
