As work began yesterday on installing the Kings Parade ice rink, organisers warned tickets are selling fast.
The ice rink will form the centrepiece of the festival which will kick off this Saturday.
Ice skating will be available on the rink from Saturday morning, and then daily for the duration of the nine-day festival.
“We’ve sold about 3200 tickets so far, which is about one-third of the total tickets,” a Bathurst Regional Council spokesperson said yesterday.
Skating sessions will be 45 minutes long and will start on the hour, from 10am, each day of the festival.
“We expect the ticket sales to continue selling well,” mayor Gary Rush said.
The festival’s opening night this Saturday will also feature a street fair, similar to the one held on May 9 for the bicentenary.
For the winter festival the number of food and wine stalls has doubled, and they will feature in three locations – two on Russell Street and one on Church Street.
Tastebuds will also be delighted with local wine as well as barbecues, pizza, tacos, quiche, pasta, soup and churros among the eating options.
Dension College’s Kelso campus’ Cirkus Surreal will again hold street performances, this time from 4-9pm.
Other entertainment will be provided by Bathurst High’s Swing Factor and performers from Mitchell Cons-ervatorium and Arabesque.
Illuminate Bathurst will again be projected onto the Bathurst Courthouse, the War Memorial Carillon, Pedrotta’s Lane, Ribbon Gang Lane and the old TAFE Building on William Street.
There will be a new series of projections, which this time feature Bathurst’s current stories.
The silent disco will move to a new location for opening night and will return to Ribbon Gang Lane for the remainder of the Illuminate Bathurst event.
The ice rink will be open from 10am-7pm (Sunday to Thursday) and 10am-9pm (Friday and Saturday). The last session will start at 2pm on Sunday, July 12.
Cost is $5 (including skate hire) and children’s aids can be hired for an additional $5 each.
